Privacy policy
Last updated: 22 October 2026
JobCity ("we", "us") is run by [Company name, RC number], [registered address]. We help people in Jos find work and services near them. This policy explains what personal data we collect, why, who sees it and your rights under the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 (NDPA).
1. Who to contact
Questions, requests and complaints: support@jobcity.ng. Our Data Protection Officer is [name], reachable at the same address.
2. What we collect
- Account details: your phone number, name, area, the language you choose and when you signed up.
- Profile details you add: skills, work history, education, a photo, a voice note, your CV, your business name, services, prices and photos of your work.
- Verification details (only if you choose to verify): a photo of your ID card, a selfie, guarantor details and business registration documents. These are seen only by our verification staff.
- Activity: jobs you post, save or apply to, bookings, messages you send through JobCity, reviews, reports and purchases.
- Payments: the amount, date and reference of each payment. Card and bank details are handled by Paystack; we never see or store your full card number.
- Device and safety data: your IP address, browser type, the approximate location you give us and records that help us stop fraud and abuse.
3. Why we use it (and our lawful basis)
- To run your account and show your profile to people you apply to or work with (contract).
- To send one-time sign-in codes, job alerts and notices about your applications or bookings (contract; alerts you can turn off are based on consent).
- To check identities, stop scams and keep members safe — including the rule that job seekers must never be asked for money (legitimate interest and legal obligation).
- To take payments, issue refunds and keep financial records (contract and legal obligation).
- To improve JobCity using totals that do not identify you (legitimate interest).
We do not sell your personal data. We do not use it for automated decisions that have legal effects on you.
4. Who sees your data
- Employers and customers see your profile when you apply, book or quote. Your phone number is hidden until you agree to share it or accept a booking.
- Agents who helped you sign up see only what is needed to confirm the registration.
- Our service providers, under contract: Termii (SMS), Paystack (payments), Google Firebase (notifications and chat), our web host [Spaceship] and our backup storage provider [name]. Some of these store data outside Nigeria; where they do, we rely on the safeguards allowed by Part VIII of the NDPA.
- Authorities, when the law requires it or to protect someone from harm.
5. How long we keep it
- Your account: until you delete it. When you delete your account we remove your profile and hide your name from other members within [30] days.
- Payment and tax records: [6] years, as Nigerian law requires.
- Verification documents: [12] months after the check, then deleted.
- Reports of abuse: as long as needed to keep members safe.
- Backups: up to [14] days on our server and [90] days off-site, then overwritten.
6. Your rights
Under the NDPA you can ask to: see the personal data we hold about you; correct it; delete it; restrict or object to how we use it; receive a copy in a common format; and withdraw consent at any time. You can delete your account yourself in Account → Delete my account. For anything else, email support@jobcity.ng. We will reply within [30] days.
If you are not happy with our answer you can complain to the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (ndpc.gov.ng).
7. Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), one-time codes for sign-in, two-step login for staff, access limited by role, audit logs and encrypted backups. No system is perfect: if a breach puts your rights at risk we will tell the NDPC within 72 hours and tell you without delay.
8. Children
JobCity is for people aged 18 and over. We do not knowingly create accounts for children.
9. Changes
We will post any change here and tell you by SMS or notification if it is important.
